June 19, 2013 - Annual Volunteer Dinner Honors Dr. Maria Fridman
On June 19, 213 the annual Volunteersí Dinner was held at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. It was a special occasion in appreciation of all the shelter volunteers who play such an
important role in keeping our Womenís Shelter open all year long. This year, it was extra
special because Dr. Maria Fridman, Director of the Womenís Shelter, is retiring after 30+ years of service to the homeless community.
Chair Dr. Phyllis Harrison-Ross and NYSEC Leader Dr. Anne Klaeysen talked about the history of our Womenís Shelter and presented Maria with a lovely bouquet. It was announced that in addition
to a plaque of appreciation for Maria, the Womenís Shelter will be named after her. Many volunteers were recognized for their service. Additionally, Dr. Harrison-Ross and Dr. Klaeysen presented NYSECís Teen Leadership Program participants with certificates of appreciation for their work on the Shelter Mural Project.
