My inclination has always been to do or to take “action” to make things better for others whether in my teaching career, business, or here at the Ethical Society.

I was a high school English educator for 26 years in an ethnically diverse community. As co-advisor of the high school newspaper, I helped create an environment where students felt safe to be themselves while working long hours on the Chieftain

I served on the Hillsborough Library Board for ten years, the last two as President while we built a new library. I also served on the board for an organization called Home Sharing which paired homeowners who had needs (financial or physical) with those who were unhoused and could offer help in exchange for a place to live. It was usually a woman with a child in need of a home and an elderly woman who needed assistance and also helped babysit, etc.

My business experience included nurturing young new artists as well as supporting artists from every background who sought an outlet for their work. I also created all of the PR for our events over 36+ years.

I would like to be a part of the Social Service Board to continue in the spirit of my efforts with the Good Neighbor Food Initiative (and other related initiatives with our NYCHA neighbors) as well as the very vital work protecting the vote and our Democracy, all of which align with the SSB’s Mission to work to “alleviate the symptoms of systemic injustice to promote a more compassionate city.”
